| Basal squamules evanescent or persistent, 2–4 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., with irregular narrow lobes. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 1.5–4, rarely to 6 cm tall, 1–3 mm diam., mainly simple, rarely branching, esorediate, corticate at base and apices and below apothecia, remainder ecorticate and partly coarsely granulose or partly warted-corticate; ecorticate areas becoming brown in older specimens, with coarse squamules 0.5–2, rarely to 4 mm long; scyphi either marginal and 1.5–2.5 cm tall or terminal and narrow, 2–4 mm diam., with or without short marginal proliferations 1–3 mm long. Apothecia pedicellate or sessile on margins of scyphi, large, conspicuous, 2–6 mm diam., convex, brown. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
| Occurs in south-eastern N.S.W., A.C.T and Tas.; also in Heard Is., Macquarie Is., New Zealand, South America and Antarctica; grows on dead or decayed wood. | ||
